John Did No Miracles

"And many resorted unto him, and said, John did no miracle: but all things that John spake of this man were true. And many believed on him there."  John 10vs41,42.

The Master declared John to be the greatest of the old testament prophets. "Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist:" Matt 11vs11.

His greatness was not in what he did. His greatness was do to his proximity to Christ. He was the one who saw him of whom the other prophets only heard. John was great in that he had the great privilege of pointing out and identifying, with divine assistance, “the Lamb of GOD who would take away the sin of the world”.

Yet in all of John's ministry, and many came to him at the Jordan river, the scripture say’s that 'John did no miracle'.

Why is this recorded? To teach us the truth about the law!

You see John like all the prophets of the old testament represented the law to the nation of Israel. It was their job to point out the sin of the people.

Isa 58vs1 "Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins." Romans 3vs23b ":for by the law is the knowledge of sin".

John's message was repent. The message of the law is turn and obey. Yet there is no power in the law to grant repentance unto life. The law cannot produce life. That is the miracle that John could not do! Gal 3vs21b "for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law".

But the purpose of the law when rightly used, is to point men to the only one who can give life, Jesus Christ.

John 14vs6 "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me".

John 6vs33 "For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. John 10vs10 "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly".

John 17vs3 "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent".

The miracle of life is the direct result of sinners coming to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, and that by the grace of GOD. "For by Grace are ye saved".

Listen carefully! The purpose of the law was never ever intended to give life, maintain life, nor perfect life. The law sets before men the way of life and death. “This day I set before you life and death”

But the miracle of life in the soul, only GOD alone can perform. Life and faith comes from Him that has life and faith.
